Clutter can physically exist in many forms: a messy kitchen drawer, a wardrobe bursting at its hinges, a junk-filled attic, and an overflowing spare bedroom. Clutter not only takes up room in your home but emotionally impacts on your entire being, leaving you feeling frustrated, exhausted, stressed and under-valued.

Attracting Visitors To Your Site And Keeping Them There

If you have a business it is likely you have a website but are you really harnessing the power digital marketing offers?

To ensure your website is working to generate real results for your business, you must do two things. The first is directing people to your website and the second is keeping them there and converting their interest into sales.

In order to drive traffic to your website, you must be prepared to invest in its success. Websites do not generate business without being used strategically.

Calls to Action
All marketing materials should list your website address, including your stationery, brochures, flyers, newsletters and e-mails. If you’re sending out any form of promotion, you need tobe enticing visitors to your website so they can make a purchase or an enquiry that will generate sales. If you are sending out newsletters or e-shots and you are asking someone to visit your site for a specific reason i.e. to buy. You should make this clear so the consumer understands what they need to do to. Confusing messages will frustrate customers and they will not buy if your process seems complex and clumsy.

SEO
It is important the words and terms written within your website relate to the search terms your consumers will be using when searching for the product or service you offer. You need to ensure search terms are incorporated that will bring your website to the first page of a search engine and use a number of search terms to ensure your site is search engine friendly. SEO should be respected: take care not to saturate content or list keywords as this will work against you and your site could get blacklisted. There are plenty of companies who can offer advice on SEO and manage this on your behalf, if you have the available budget. In addition to keywords, you can pay for Pay Per Click ads and such like with the search engines, which will help you in the initial stages of driving traffic to your website.

Blogs
Blog writing is an effective way to increase the variety of search terms on your website and to attract more visitors to interesting content. If your blog articles are well written and contain informative content you stand a better chance of generating repeat visits from your audience. The more they buy into your articles the better chance you have of capturing their interest to the products or services you offer.

Once you get your customers to your site, you now have to keep them there long enough for them to become a paying customer.

Be Welcoming
The design and content of your website should be friendly and welcoming. There is little point having a website that is impeccably designed if poor copy is used to communicate your service offering. Well-written copy is just as important as the design and layout, and of course it will include keywords and phrases that will help you generate traffic.

Usability is Key
You must ensure the navigational structure of your website is easy to follow. Customers want to find what they are looking for quickly and easily. Having a user-friendly site will generate more enquiries and sales than having a complex site overloaded with unnecessary pages.

Informative Content
Whatever you write on your website, it should be of interest to the consumer. You must portray your company as a credible, professional organisation with the expertise to provide solutions to your followers’ problems and challenges. This will help the consumer to decide whether they have the confidence to use your services. You can track the pages your customers visit and see how long they stay on each page, giving you an indication of how well received the information is. Remember your content should be customer-focused. You need to tell them why they should use your service from the outset. If you don’t do this, they will leave at a single click!

Use your website wisely and monitor its progress. Don’t be afraid to question why visitors are leaving your site – do something about it, make changes. Your website is your shop window to the world. If something is not working, it can be quickly amended and the focus moved on to new things. Use your website to your advantage to attract and convert consumers into long-term satisfied clients!

Create A Mindset For Success

In our last blog we discussed identifying your own personal goals and the reasons that inspired you to start up your own business. In this blog we follow on from there by considering how to create effective business goals and aspirations that will drive your vision for success through 2012. Maintaining a vision of success and believing your service offering benefits your customers is key to working towards and achieving your business goals.

It is well-known that your thoughts influence your emotions, which drive your actions. Therefore if you want something enough you will work hard to realise it. The same is true in business: the more you want to succeed, the more you will be driven to bring projects to fruition.

It is good practice to clarify your goals specifically and measurably. It’s not good enough to simply say, “I want to grown my business in 2012”. This statement needs to encompass your entire specific goal, incorporating a deadline of when it will be achieved. You can then go on to break this down further with interim stepped goals and action steps detailing how you’re going to achieve it.

How do you want to grow your business?
On which areas of your business will you concentrate?
Who will you target to generate growth?

It is far better to say, “I want to grow my business by 15% in the first seven months of 2012 by targeting farm shops to purchase my homemade jam.”

This gives you a full breakdown of your goal in one sentence:

What to focus on (jam production)
Who to target (identification of farm shops)
A deadline (end July 2012)
A growth target (15%)

You can then break down the goal even further into stepped goals and action steps to ensure it is achievable. The more specific you are, the easier the goal will become. You can then work towards smaller tasks, making you instantly confident that your goal can be realised:

You now believe you can achieve your goal (thought)
You desire the outcome of what achievement will give you (emotion)
You are motivated and driven to complete each task and succeed (action)

These culminate in results, which equate to success!

Change your mindset today and you can look forward to a lifetime of success in everything you do!

Identify Your Own Goals

Often in life, as well as in business, we aspire to achieve what others have. We tend to base our goals on material possessions: a new car, a bigger house or the latest mobile phone. Are these really the reasons you went into business or are they a symbol of status in the minds of others?

Keeping up with the Joneses can be an exhausting exercise, especially when you don’t enjoy the results of your labour. The goals you set for 2012 must relate to your personal desires, business aspirations and what you most value in life.

Most mumpreneurs set up in business for the following reasons:

To have flexibility to work around the needs of the family
To be answerable only to themselves
To increase their sense of fulfilment and achievement on their own terms

These in themselves are signs of enormous success. If you’re achieving any of these goals, and they were the reason you started your business, you should feel immensely satisfied and proud.

If you struggle to identify your own goals, it could relate to issues with confidence and self-belief. You must value your own self-worth enough to live life based on your terms. It is worth taking time to reflect on what makes you unique, including the things that make you smile, feel proud and enjoy most, especially your personal quirkiness! Here is an example of such a list:

I love spending time with my husband and three children
My passion is baking
I can speak French fluently and a little bit of Spanish
I run my own business making cupcakes for all occasions
I ran Race For Life for the first time this year
I want to travel Asia
I love writing letters to my friends and family
I hate early mornings. When can I have a lie-in?
I love snuggling up watching a film drinking red wine
I have amazing friends

When you list things about yourself, you will be surprised at what you have achieved in life and all the diverse things you enjoy. Once you have a list of all the things you know about yourself, you can rate what you like doing most and ask yourself: is your work life supporting your personal life and enabling you to achieve your greatest dreams? We can surmise from this example that this mum’s cupcake business is helping her to spend lots of time with her family and to save for a long-haul flight to Asia. She should also be ensuring it gives her the time needed to keep in touch with her friends and to train for her running hobby. If she achieves these things, she is a success in her own right and on her own terms!

Give this exercise a try: list up to twenty things about yourself, such as your strengths, qualities, likes, dislikes, development areas and achievements. You’ll soon identify which aspects of your life you can be proud of and use to boost your confidence and self-belief, and also the areas that require your attention to enable you to grow as a person and business owner. You can then set goals to improve these areas and make yourself an even greater success!

2012 looks set to be a year of excitement and celebration in the UK. As London gears up to host the 2012 Olympic Games, the Queen will be celebrating her Diamond Jubilee and 60 years as Britain’s Monarch. With the world’s eyes turned to our humble island, what successes are you hoping to achieve in 2012?
