Homemade Decorations And Gifts
Christmas should be all about enjoying quality family time. A great way to do this during the run up to Christmas is to make and share lots of festive crafts. Back To School Preparation

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

During the summer months, it is the norm to slip into a more relaxed routine with later bedtimes and no set schedule. As the summer holidays draw to a close, it is a good idea to prepare for the onset of the new school term by reintroducing your term-time routine. Here are some great tips to help you get back into the swing of things!

Bring Back Bedtime
A set bedtime doesn’t normally exist during the long school holidays but in order to get used to the school run again, it is a good idea to re-establish a good bedtime routine. A couple of weeks before the end of the holidays re-start your usual bedtime pattern – such as bath, story, bed – at your usual time so your kids can get used to a life during term-time. It is also a good idea to wake the children up earlier so they also find this easier once school starts. (more…)

Overcoming Childcare Guilt.

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Do you remember your childhood summer holidays, when the days were filled with a choice of fun-packed activities or long, lazy lie-ins? Now you’re a mum, it is much more likely that your children’s summer holidays are going to consist of a frenzied attempt at trying to juggle work commitments and fulfilling childcare needs. Top this off with a big helping of Guilt and your dread for this time of year begins!

The summer holidays can be especially difficult for mums trying to maintain a good work/life balance. Try to make a change this year and at the top of your overwhelming Summer Holiday To Do List write, “I am happy with my childcare decisions!”

If you are struggling to eliminate your feelings of guilt entirely, try to see if you can alter your working options. Many employers allow their staff to work flexi-time, allowing you to take time off during holidays in exchange for working weekends. You could also share out your time off with your partner: they could take the first week off, you the next and both together for the final week. That leaves just a short time left to fill with childcare options. (more…)

Preparing For Holiday Excitement.

Monday, July 12th, 2010

The build up to the summer holidays can be overwhelming, especially when you are wondering what to do with your excitable children during the long annual break! Here are some great tips to help you contain your children’s excitement whilst keeping them entertained in the summer sun.

Set Up A Play Room Or Play Area
Children often go from room to room leaving remnants of a whirlwind in their wake. Trying to keep up with the tidying and all your other household chores can be exhausting, especially if you are also juggling other duties such as work responsibilities.

If you’ve the space, set up a play area or play room that the children can concentrate their mess, rather than spreading all over the entire house! Although they can leave games out in this room to continue playing with the next day, it is important you encourage them to put away toys with which they are no longer playing. A great time to have a tidy up session is before tea or bedtime. (more…)

Celebrate The Woman You Are.

Monday, May 24th, 2010

The key to enjoying life confidently and passionately is to celebrate the woman you are! You are many things – a mum, a wife, a partner, a friend, a daughter, a work colleague, a PTA member – and you should be proud of all the things you achieve for yourself and your family on a daily basis.

Being a mum is extremely rewarding but it can be exhausting. When you are so busy attending the needs of others, you can often forget about your own needs and quickly become resentful and under valued. It is important, therefore, to ensure you value yourself, your time and your qualities – doing this will ensure you make the most out of every experience in life. (more…)

Change Your Mindset For A Healthier You.

Monday, May 10th, 2010

With the onset of summer, many of us will be desperately trying out a huge variety of fad diets in an attempt to squeeze into our bikinis and swim suits. However, have you thought about how you want to look when you return from your holidays and beyond?

Changing your mindset about living a healthier life will help you maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle, letting you enjoy every aspect of your life without worrying about how you look!

The most successful change will come when you start thinking differently about the way you look and feel. If you truly analyse your self-worth, you should see a successful mum who is managing to juggle a huge variety of roles to keep herself and her children happy. Shouldn’t this be enough to make you feel great about yourself?

With all the responsibilities we have to juggle, it is hardly surprising we struggle to find time to eat healthily and exercise regularly. However, by including all the family in your efforts, you should find changing your mind set about healthy living a fun and easy thing to do! (more…)

How ‘Me Time’ Can Make You A Better Mum.

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Do you ever:

  • Wonder when ‘things’ will get easier?
  • Crave for some time alone?
  • Wish your life came with a ‘pause’ button?
  • Feel it’s all getting a bit much?
  • Want to get away from it all?
  • Wish life could be simpler?

These thoughts and feelings are entirely normal and common to most mums. Is it really any wonder when we look at all the responsibilities we are carrying on our shoulders, making sure the family is okay and never considering our own needs? Sometimes, it really is okay to say, “Stop! I need some time out!” (more…)

How To Enjoy Life As A Single Mum.

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Life as a single mum can be challenging and exhausting, especially around this time of year when all the shops are filled with heart-shaped balloons! Here are some top tips to help you improve your confidence and take control of your life and its direction.

1. Congratulate yourself for doing an amazing job under difficult circumstances. Children bring us endless pleasure but bringing them up alone can often be demanding and overwhelming. Acknowledging everything you do to ensure your child is happy and content should make you feel proud.

2. Ensure you are happy about your self-image. This doesn’t just relate to your physical presence but the skills you have to offer. It should only matter what you think and nobody else. Celebrate everything about yourself and have confidence in the person you are.

3. Allow yourself some quality ‘me time’. Schedule some time off by booking a babysitter or forming a babysitting group with mums in a similar situation to you.

4. List your life-long goals and plan how you can achieve them. Being a single mum should not stop you from living your life according to your needs and aspirations.

5. Enjoy time spent with your friends. Take the time to catch up with friends and have a good time together. Try to arrange the odd night out but if this isn’t possible, invite them round to your house and share each other’s news over a glass of wine. Share challenges and ways to overcome them: remember a problem shared is a problem halved! (more…)
