The best way to make any changes to your lifestyle is by taking small steps. Be it getting more exercise, changing your diet or altering the amount of time your family spends together, it’s always going to be easier to do it in stages. Choose simple goals that can be introduced into your routine reasonably quickly to help you form lasting habits that have a positive impact on your life.

Everyone copes with change differently. You may need to alter your routine gradually, mixing it up to achieve the final outcome. Alternatively, you may adopt a more regimented approach, with a defined path to follow. Whatever your method, it is important you recognise your milestone targets and ensure they are achievable in your already incredibly busy life.

Always focus on creating realistic goals. With the time challenges you already face, there is little point trying to work miracles. In reality, all change for the good takes time. Establishing in your own mind why you are making these changes will make it easier for you to succeed. If the changes will make you feel better about yourself and improve your confidence, they are worth pursuing.

Ensure your objectives are clearly defined. Your aims could be open-ended, especially if they are relating to continuous lifestyle improvements that support your general wellbeing. Alternatively your goal may have a final destination if it relates to the accomplishment of a specific task.

Some challenges may seem insurmountable, but it is amazing what you can achieve when you put your mind to it! Breaking your steps into manageable chunks decreases the chance of failure and increases your ability to strike the right life balance. If you miss a target, don’t despair! Simply regroup, renew your efforts and even reassess your goals to ensure they still chime with your current circumstances.

That first step is often the most difficult to take, so always reward your efforts. Whilst gaining support from your family and friends is paramount, you also have to have the self-belief and desire to make your goals happen. Once you see you are succeeding, your confidence will soar as each milestone is reached. This in turn will improve your wellbeing and self-worth, and make you feel much happier about your personal achievements.
