Do you often feel as though you are on an endless treadmill in a life full of work and family related duties, which lacks any time for yourself? It is a very common situation in which to find yourself.
Work might be going well, with a promotion on the horizon, and you’ve got the family routine running perfectly, but when was the last time you took some much-needed time-out?
If your work and family duties seem never ending, it is more than likely that you are not truly fulfilled in life. This is because you haven’t given yourself enough care; instead you have neglected your own needs.
To rectify the situation before it spirals out of control, you must re-assess your own needs. They are as important as your family’s needs.
Allow yourself to dream: mums can and deserve a life beyond motherhood. If you are craving something new in your life, ask yourself what are some of the dreams you have been putting off, maybe until the children are grown up. Why wait? You are effectively putting your life on hold.
As you plan your schedule, ensure you include essential ‘me time’. Identify activities that you would like to do – catch up with friends, relax in a bubble bath, read a book, go to the cinema – and mark the event in your diary to ensure it happens. Introducing this time into your life will reinvigorate you, create a more positive, energised you and help you to maintain a more content, balanced and fulfilled life.
If you feel there is no way you could include ‘me time’ into your schedule, you seriously need to consider some major changes to your life. Self-neglect will only work away at your health and happiness, fuel your negative thoughts and emotions, and drag you into a state of despair.
So, schedule some vital self-care into your life and enjoy it, whilst remembering the greatest gift you can give your child is a happy, healthy mum!
